I woke up this morning to heavy fog. What an apt metaphor this quote is for that feeling of not quite connecting to one’s environment and the feeling of almost grasping to the conscious self, an almost meaning, with the fading of dreams when waking. We are tactile and visual creatures. When part of that is taken away there is unease. Is there really a moat from our inner selves to our outer selves? If there is, I seek to bridge that gap.
Jung’s view that much of who we are is untapped in the unconscious is as good as any other theory. But it keeps one searching rather than being in the present. I think that was the zeitgeist of many of us in the 1990s, we were searching for our better selves and to heal trauma, imaginary or real.

On 22 August 2023, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Pre-surgery post biopsy diagnosis was Invasive Ductal Carcinoma, ER positive, HER2 negative, Stage 1a, Grade 3. The suggested course of treatment was surgery (lumpectomy) followed by radiation, then 5 years of Anastrozole. Pathology after surgery revealed Invasive Ductal Carcinoma, ER positive, HER2 negative, Stage 2, Grade 3. The suggested course of treatment was changed to surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, then 5 to 10 years Anastrozole. This is a marathon not a sprint. Surgery complete. Chemo complete.
